Advices and queries

When you are preoccupied and distracted in meeting let wayward and disturbing thoughts give way quietly to your awareness of God’s presence among us and in the world. Receive the vocal ministry of others in a tender and creative spirit. Reach for the meaning deep within it, recognising that even if it is not God’s word for you, it may be so for others. Remember that we all share responsibility for the meeting for worship whether our ministry is in silence or through the spoken word.

We reopened the Meeting House for Meeting for Worship last Sunday with seven of us there, and afterwards we considered how best to continue.

We agreed to hold MfW twice a month for the summer while we settle back in, and we can review this as we go along.

The next MfW will be Sunday 23 May after which we’ll hold a business meeting.

Two weeks after that will take us to the first Sunday of June and we’ll continue meeting on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month. The dates are as follows:

23 May

6 June

20 June

4 July

18 July

1 August

15 August

5 September

We can carry on sitting at home at Meeting time as many have been and Woodbrooke continues to hold MfW on Sundays and through the week.

Silence is the language of God,all else is poor translation.

Friendship Meeting

The friendship meeting will be held on 9th January 2021

It is thought that it will be held online although it was originally to have been held at Gainsborough meeting house.

It will start at 10.30 am

Lee Taylor will speak about working with Quaker partners in Southern Africa in

pandemic times.

She will bring the work of Friends of Hlekweni in Southern Zimbabwe into her talk.

We are already one and we imagine we are not. And what we have to recover is our original unity. Whatever we have to be is what we are.

Thomas Merton

Quaker Worship

“What we are looking for is what is looking.”

 St. Francis of Assisi

Our life is love, and peace, and tenderness;
and bearing one with another,

and forgiving one another,
and not laying accusations one against another;
but praying one for another,
and helping one another up with a tender hand.
–Isaac Pennington, Letters, 1667
